"Where do I enter a UserID?"
|
You can enter a purchased UserID at:
OR
|
| |
|
| |
"I just entered my UserID number, yet when I start programs, licensing screen still appears. What's the matter?"
|
This problem may arise if the file which holds the UserID becomes write-protected, or if it is on another disk drive which then becomes unavailable.
In the latest version of EasyHelper (January 18, 2002 and upgrades after this date) we more carefully check for these situations when entering a UserID. Please download an updated version of EasyHelper (from http://www.e-press.com/downloads Page) and re-enter your UserID at the EasyHelper program.

|
| |
"I purchased a UserID last month and entered it then. Today, when I start programs, the licensing screen appear asking me to purchase a UserID. What happened?"
|
|
This does not happen very often, but we have had a few case reports of this issue. The UserID may have been accidently overwritten. Please go to EasyHelper and re-enter the UserID. |

"I purchased a CD-ROM, and entered my UserID as part of the installation process. However, when programs start, I see a message asking me to purchase a UserID. Why?"
|
|
This does not happen very often, but we have had a few case reports of this issue. The UserID may have been accidently overwritten. Please go to EasyHelper and re-enter the UserID. |

Windows 95 Issues |
Note: Windows95 is no longer supported by EasyOffice. There have been too many changes in Internet Explorer 6 which we are forced to use with our Wiindows programming language development that no longer support Windows95. As a result, we are required to change too many system files in order to allow EasyOffice to now run on Windows95 computers. We have thus stopped support for EasyOffice on Windows95.
Please note that we try to offer longer extended support for Microsoft Windows version than Microsoft does as well we try to offer EasyOffice running on older versions of Microsoft Windows than Microsoft Office does (click here to see system requirements for current version of Word at the time of this writing). However, at a certain point we are no longer able to support certain Windows platforms.

"I have a copy of Internet Explorer 5 installed already on my computer, yet I get a message from EasyOffice telling me I need to install Internet Explorer 5 or higher. Why?"
|
You probably do not have a full set of Internet Explorer 5 files. Some may be older versions. Go to EasyHelper and see what version of shell32.dll you have, for example.
In many cases, installing a full Internet Explorer 5 (eg, from a Microsoft CD-ROM or from the EasyOffice CD-ROM) seems to solve the problem. In a small percentage of other cases, in some configurations of early versions of Windows95, this problem occurs, and is solved by update to an updated version of Windows95 (ie, Windows95B or C), if this is possible in your case.

"I have installed Internet Explorer from a CD-ROM, yet I get a message from EasyOffice telling me I need to install Internet Explorer 5 or higher. Why?" |
Some of your files in Windows95A may be out of date. Many aspects of EasyOffice may still work, however.
|
|
| |
"I have a new copy of Internet Explorer 5 installed already on my computer, yet when I install EasyOffice I still receive the warning that Shell32.dll was an older version. What should I do?"
|
You probably do not have a full set of Internet Explorer 5 files. Some may be older versions. Or, some of your files in Windows95A may be out of date. However, continue to install EasyOffice. Most aspects of EasyOffice should work. There may be some problems with EasyZip and EasyPresentation, but EasyWord and EasySpreadsheet should work.
Many users have reported to us that downloading the lastest Internet Explorer version did not solve the problem, but if they then purchase an EasyOffice Premium CD-ROM where the full complement of Microsoft files are installed, the issue resolves.
Some users have reported to us that downloading the latest Internet Explorer version did not solve the problem, but thereafter also downloading DCom95.exe and SPEU.exe from Microsoft.com resolved a number of issues.

WindowsMe Issues |
"Some of my Windows systems folders display a Windows98 logo instead of the Windows2000 or WindowsMe logo." |
This issue (occurring in EasyOffice prior to August 2001 release) may affect some users, and you may or may not want to fix this issue, depending on whether it appears on your system. Under Windows2000 or WindowsMe the Windows98 webvw dll is inadvertently used instead of the Windows2000 or WindowsMe version of this dll.
To fix this issue, un-install EasyOffice Freeware and download the upgraded version at:
http://www.e-press.com/downloads

WindowsNT Issues |
"What version of WindowsNT is required?" |
| EasyOffice requires WindowsNT 4 or higher with SP (service pack) 3 or higher installed. |
Note: WindowsNT is no longer supported by EasyOffice. There have been too many changes in the controls which we are forced to use with our Wiindows programming language development that no longer support WindowsNT. As a result, we are required to change too many system files in order to allow EasyOffice to now run on WindowsNT computers. We have thus stopped support for EasyOffice on WindowsNT.
Please note that we try to offer longer extended support for Microsoft Windows version than Microsoft does (click here to see official support withdrawal timetables) as well we try to offer EasyOffice running on older versions of Microsoft Windows than Microsoft Office does (click here to see system requirements for current version of Word at the time of this writing). However, at a certain point we are no longer able to support certain Windows platforms.

"I just updated my EasyOffice program with a CD-ROM on my Windows2000 computer. When I run EasyWord I now get an error message 'The procedure entry point not found'. What is the matter?" |
In the System32 directory, 'easyoffice.dll' and 'epval.dll' were not overwritten with new files by Windows2000. Please un-install your old copy of EasyOffice first, and then insert the CD-ROM again.
In releases after May, 2002, these files are now automatically overwritten regardless of Windows2000 settings, and the problem should no longer occur.

WindowsXP Issues |
"I just installed EasyOffice Freeware onto my new Microsoft WindowsXP computer. There is no speech synthesis now, but instead a message that says I need the files on the CD-ROM. Why? EasyOffice's speech worked perfectly on my older Windows 2000 system." |
Microsoft WindowsXP no longer supports the SAPI4 voice recognition engine. SAPI5.1 must be used with WindowsXP.
The voice files for SAPI5.1 are too large (> 100MB) to download from the e-press web site now, but must be distributed via CD-ROM.

|
| |
"EasyVoice worked great on my old WindowsMe (or Win98 or Win2000) computer. I just installed EasyVoice on my new WindowsXP computer, and I now only have the choice of one voice, and I don't like this voice." |
Microsoft WindowsXP no longer supports the SAPI4 voice recognition engine. SAPI5.1 must be used with WindowsXP.
SAPI5.1 is pre-installed on many computers that come with WindowsXP. In many of these pre-installations, there is often only one voice ('Sam') installed.
The older versions of EasyOffice (prior to February 1, 2002) did not overwrite this limitation. However, EasyOffice versions after February 1, 2002 will automatically install Mike's and Mary's voices on WindowXP computers. Please upgrade your version of EasyOffice if necessary.

"I am running EasyWord on WindowsXP. After I type a line of text, or a spelling mistake occurs, the program seems to exit by itself. Why is this happening?" |
WindowsXP forces EasyWord to use SAPI5 for voice synthesis (versus SAPI4 used in older versions of Windows). SAPI5 uses huge amounts of system resources, and as a result, there have been reports of the above on some computer systems. (However, there is no problem in the vast majority of WindowsXP computers.)
Turn "Voice Reminder" OFF, and the problem should resolve.

Windows Terminal Services Issues |
"What is Microsoft Windows Terminal Services?" |
Terminal Services allow programs to run on the server instead of on the client PC. The Terminal Services client on the client PC simply transmits the graphical user interface to the client, while all application processing is occurring on the server. |
| |
|
| |
"Will EasyOffice run on Windows Terminal Services?" |
Yes. EasyOffice will run on both WindowsNT Terminal Server Edition and under Windows2000 Server Terminal Services.
However, for optimal use of EasyOffice on Windows Terminal Services, the various issues brought up in this section should be considered.
|
| |
|
| |
"What tips will optimize use of EasyOffice on Windows Terminal Services?" |
-
Turn off all tutorials to avoid excessive transmission of bit-mapped graphics.
-
Turn off voice-readbacks if server slow-downs are occurring.
-
Avoid use of speech recognition. Speech recognition utilizes huge amounts of processor time and memory, and was designed for local processing, not for execution on a server.
-
Avoid use of animation artwork and special effects in EasyPresentation

Other Operating System Version Availability |
"Will EasyOffice run on Windows3.1 or under MS-DOS?" |
No.
|
| |
|
| |
"Do you have a Linux version of EasyOffice?"
|
No. Although we have had strong demand for such a version, the EasyOffice programs are too dependent on the multimedia features of the Windows operating system, to allow the creation of a suitable Linux version.
|
| |
|
| |
"Do you have a Macintosh version of EasyOffice?"
|
No. While we recognize the advanced features of the Mac OS, we have not had sufficient demand to justify the creation of such a version. |

Language Version Availability |
"Where can I download/purchase the French/Chinese/Spanish/Korean/Portuguese/..... Version of EasyOffice?" |
At this time, EasyOffice Premium is available in English, full and partial translations of a variety of languages, and spelling dictionaries for most European languages are included.
In an English version of EasyOffice, although the menus are in English, EasyOffice Premium supports international characters, accents and Unicode.
Please note that EasyOffice will not support the right-to-left direction needed for Arabic and Hebrew, although it will support Arabic and Hebrew characters themselves. Thus, it is ok to use EasyOffice to enter a few Arabic or Hebrew characters but not full-time work in these languages due to the lack of a right-to-left direction.
Click here to check on availability of other languages.
